The watchdog countdown is supposed to begin when the device file is opened. Instead, it would begin countdown upon the first write to or close of the device file. Now, the ping operation is called within the start operation which ensures the countdown begins. From experimenation, it does not appear possible to do this with a single write including both the start bit and the trigger bit. So, it is done as two distinct writes. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
